RIM shows PlayBook living in sweet harmony with BlackBerry Torch in new video

It's no secret that RIM's PlayBook is going to need a connection to a nearby BlackBerry phone to do much of its corporate heavy lifting, and a new video posted by the company today shows a little more detail on exactly how that'll look. The one-minute, 54-second spot spends much of its time in the tablet's email app, demonstrating how the Playbook and the Torch beside it are perfectly in sync -- read an email on one, it immediately shows read on the other, and so on. We also learn that any secured corporate data that you're using on the PlayBook while tethered is essentially on loan -- it'll disappear as soon as you disconnect, which is one of the reasons RIM's touting this as a bolt-on for any corporate BES environment that won't require any additional configuration or lines of data service. The video certainly doesn't do much to appeal to the casual BlackBerry user -- you know, the Curve and Pearl types of folks -- but it's an interesting watch nonetheless. Check it after the break.

NASA's Sustainability Building, the government's greenest building, opening in California this year

You may or may not have heard about NASA's project to build the most sustainable federal building in Moffett, California. The project began about two years ago, and will supposedly be finished this May. The experimental, earthly 'space station' cost $20.6 million to build, and includes 50,000 square feet of work space on two floors. The building also includes radiant ceiling panels, heating panels on walls, and radiant concrete flooring. When completed, the Sustainability Base will use 90 percent less potable water than a regular office building of the same size, and it will be able to create 22 percent more energy.

Gmail Labs features get easier to find with Instant-like search

Gmail Labs features are great, but with more than four dozen to choose from, it's gotten a bit tedious scrolling through and trying to figure out which to enable. You could use your Web browser's built-in find feature to locate a specific term on the page, but that's just not very Google.

Which is precisely why a pair of Google engineers decided it was time to add a fancy search option on the Labs page. Not only can you search, but as with Google Instant your results will appear as you type. You can also link directly to a particular query, which could be useful if you frequently toggle a particular Labs feature or two.

How?d Sequoia Let Yuri Milner Grab this Sweetheart Y Combinator Deal?

Earlier tonight, Mike posted a bombshell that must have made super angels shudder. Not content with the grenade he threw into the late-stage investing world with aggressive investments in Facebook, Groupon and Zynga, tonight Yuri Milner announced a new partnership with Ron Conway that offers similar you'd-be-crazy-not-to-take-this-deal terms for every Y Combinator company. But you know who might be even more bummed by the news than the super angels? Sequoia Capital. The top Valley firm led Y Combinator's last funding, less than one year ago. At $8.5 million, this was a big step up for Y Combinator, dramatically allowing it to expand how many startups it could let into its incubator. And it should have been a big advantage for Sequoia too: A way to see a crop of new deals early in an increasingly competitive investing landscape, where most VCs are being shut out of early rounds by super angels. It seems Milner stole the opportunity right out from under Sequoia.

The Googlers Behind Pubsubhubbub Are Back At It With Camlistore. Open Sync, Store, Share

You may recall that back in the summer of 2009, there was a lot of hubbub over a Google 20 percent project with a near impossible name: Pubsubhubbub. Creators Brad Fitzpatrick and Brett Slatkin actually unveiled it at our Realtime Stream CrunchUp back then. And it garnered a lot of buzz for a good reason: it aimed to speed up traditionally slow feeds of information to realtime. Well, now the two are back at it again (with a few other contributors) with a new project: Camlistore. First of all, aside from the fact that I keep typing "Camilstore", this name is a significant improvement over the last project. It's an acronym for "Content-Addressable Multi-Layer Indexed Storage". But more importantly, the project once again looks to be a very interesting one. Though the team is quick to note on its homepage that it's "not ready for users", the site has quite a bit of information about the general hopes for the project and how they imagine it working.
